Default OBD1 ecu on obd2 motor??

Is it possible to use my OBD1 ecu off of my dead b18c on an obd2 b18c?

I have a guy selling an OBD2 b18c only 45min from me. Its a good deal, but I want to stay OBD1.

Is there more to making a motor obd1 than just the ecu?

What kind of problems am I going to run into?

Thanks guys

Don't quote me on it but I think you might be alright. I think OBD II is more how your car is wired and less how your engine is built.

First, you will need an OBD2(a or b) to OBD1 conversion harness to be able to plug in the ECU. Although, I'm not sure if you would need and OBD1 distributor- probably not I think. The A or B is determined by the year of your car and/or motor and distributor. Do you have this motor in your car and what year is it?

if your just dropping the motor in into your car you will be fine all b18c1's are the same. (you wouldn't be able to use the obd2 ecu on an obd1 car without buying a conversion harness or an obd1 ecu on an obd2 car)

What makes an engine OBD2 or OBD1 when its out of the car is just the distrbutor thats on it, and maybe the engine wiring harness. In this case, transfer the OBD1 dizzy from your old motor to this one, and you new motor will now be OBD1. If it does not plug in to the engine wiring harness, transfer your old engine wiring harness to the new motor, and it should drop in like stock.

From what I know, the only extra sensor on the OBD2 engine should be the Crank flux sensor which the OBD1 Ecu will not even read. You should be okay, though I have never personally done it.
