Default B16a2 compression problem

just done a compression test on a engine ive just fitted to my car and turbo'd, it ran fine untuned for like half an hour, i swithed it off and when i restarted it was hesitant to start and wouldnt idle, also the oil breather on the rocker cover has smokey gases coming out of it.....leads me to think its a blow by problem?

What is the standard compression in bar/psi for my b16a2?

i just got 5psi,14psi,7psi and 6 psi.....
It seems a bit unlikely to have three fucked piston rings all of a sudden.....or is one far too high?

Running untuned is a retarded idea.

i know, i was only driving it home keeping below 3k rpm and it wasnt really boosting, max boost it hit was like 0.1 - 0.2 bar.

Any ideas then?

u funkered ur motor nuff said stop running it and u wont score ur cylinders up to much. and untuned u should have had no spring in the wastegate or the actuator open.olong:

Checked it all over, looks like the headgasket. Theres loads of white smoke coming out the exhaust and emulsification.

Ive already said i was only getting home, cudnt be helped, wasnt driving it hard.........

i have a in car boost controller and the boost was turned right down too

easy way to check head gasket. start car cold with rad cap off if theres bubbles then headgasket. comp test and leakdown. good luck
ive seen 2 b16s that have took a dump when they werent tuned and hit only . .1 .2 bar. thats still boost and with stock managment it adds alot of timing and no extra fuel for the 2 or 3 pounds. if ur system is effecent then thats about 25-40 hp. enough to break a land with detonation even with a knock sensor is possible. ive been there trust me.... i just changed the pistons in my lude because of somthing simlar. well have fun

Well i didnt see any bubbles, i fitted a new head gasket and lapped the valves back in because a quick test showed they were leaking.

Checked the bores they looked ok, not scored at all....however the problem is still there.

Does this sound like ringlands? When i dropped the oil from the sump i couldnt see and lose metal chunks etc, it looked clean.

It's definitely your ringlands... Mine were blown and the pistons stayed "intact" until I took them out and set them on the bench, then the ringlands fell off... They stayed "intact" for months before I pulled them out...

I originally thought it was my headgasket... I replaced it and to my HORROR, I realized it was in fact the ringlands, and not the headgasket...

Sounds just like your problem... Lots of smoke out of the PCV valve tube? Yep, you blew your ringlands... Hope you do your own work or else it'll prob cost over $1000 in labor alone...

They didn't score my walls or anything... I replaced the pistons with LS (for lower compression) pistons, put in new rings, and it ran like a champ! 13psi full boost, and no smoke whatsoever...

Mine blew cause of too high of Compression ratio - 10.7:1

Good luck!
