Default need assistance with turbo

okay, here's the deal: i have an '89 civic dx hatchback and a B18b1 from a '96 integra ls. my plan is to tear it down to the block and start building it for a turbo. i want to try and get 300 whp and shave my weight down from 2k lbs. that i'm at now to about 1700lbs.

here's my first question. since i'm going to drop my compression ratio from stock to 9-1, should i go with the suggestions i found in an article from sport compact car that state:

for maximum street performance on an 1800cc to 2200cc engine, use:

turbo: T04E
compressor trim and housing a/r: 50 trim 0.50 housing
turbine: T31, 76 trim or T350, 76 trim
exhaust housing a/r: T3: 0.63-0.82
strong boost onset: 3500-4500 rpm
approximate power potential: 300 to 420 hp

let's discuss this for a bit, and then i'll drop some of my other questions on ya'll.

thanx in advance!

-Jason

what are the specs on that one and what will be different as far as spooling, max boost pressure, and compatibility with a 9-1 comp B18?

It's available in .48, .63, and .82 A/R on the turbine side, so lag shouldn't be too bad unless you get the .82. .62 might take a little longer than a smaller turbo to spool, but it'll hit you harder when boost "comes on." I don't even know what the max pressure output is, but it should be way more than anything you could run on a relatively stock block. People run these turbos at 20+psi with aftermarket sleeves. I'll try to find a compressor map for you.

find anything yet?

btw, i guess i forgot to mention, i'll prob only be running about 18 psi. i don't want the car to end up a "trailor bunny". i want to be able to drive it on the loop on the weekends and even take it to memphis, tn (which is about 100 miles from here) to race it.

well, thanx for that. i have absolutely no idea what i'm looking at. lol

um, i have come to the conclusion that there are many different turbos out there and many different trim/housing combinations, and matching them would be an overly time consuming and frustrating process. so, in retrospect, i will simply go by the guidelines set in the article as a base for my project and listen to any advice the manufacturer has to offer when i decided on a company from which to order my kit.

thank you very much for the info!!
