Default Trany issues

I'm having trouble w/ my trany. I just installed my motor and have it wired up and running. But it doesn't seem to be going into 1st or 2nd... it almost seem to start off in 3rd. I was wondering is there any way I could've installed shift linkage wrong or have a bad trany? Have any of you experienced this in the past what did you do?
I might have to buy a new trany.... If so is there a racing trany out there that is worth the $$$$

Look at the pictuer. #19 is a bolt that will lockup 1st & 2nd gear. Loosen that bolt. I know it's not a good picture, but the bolt is located on top of the trany. If you want to know if you have the right bolt, just take the bold out. There should be a ball bearing and small spring that the bolt pushes down on. That's how you can tell that you have the right one.

I forgot to mention that I found this out from my eg dx tranny. I removed that bolt to change the fluid and over tighten it. That might be your same problem.

Tighting the bolt will lock up 1 & 2, how... Like hook it up... make it locked in that gear? Should I lossen or tighten? Don't mean to sound like a robot I appreciate your response.
Thanks for the reply!

If it's too tight, it will push the spring too far and the bearing will not have any free play. Because of that, the bearing will no longer be able to move up so you can move into 1st or 2nd gear. What I did was add another washer.
