Default ls/vtec build questions

ok so ive been reading alot, and i am looking to build an ls/vtec daily driver. I want to be able to rev to 8-9k safely, and have become a little confused on rod/crank/piston choice. This is an economy build, so if i need to pull the rev limit down thats fine...

basically...what honda oem parts can handle what im looking for? id like to keep stock displacement for now. So i was thinking ls block (i can get one for 50 bucks) stick with ls crank, and either ls pistons or type r pistons...but what about rods? any stock rods can handle that high revving? since i dont think type r rods fit the stock ls crank....shotpeening do any good on the ls rods?

thanks for your help

The stock rods will be fine. The LS rod bolts are the weak link of the ls/vtec setup, so switch those out with some ARP bolts and you should be fine.

Shotpeening would be a cheap way to increase the strength of stock rods.

thats what ive gathered from another days research...

have any pros or cons on the golden eagle vs full-race.com ls/vtec oil line kit? heard golden eagle does a wrong headgasket or something?

last thing...whats a safe rev limit on the stock rods with arp's? im guessing not much more than 8500..maybe 9k? only asking since the #1 idea is that ls/vtec has to rev to make power

Golden Eagle has everything correct...high quality kit. I haven't seen the full race one yet.

full-race one was mentioned here...

http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1676914

which seems to be a very good writeup by a knowledgable builder.

just curious...are there any other noteworthy kits?

1. The Full-Race kit doesn't come with a head gasket.
2. The sandwich plate that fits over the oil filter filter threads on the GE kit is much easier to install than the T fitting where the oil pressure sender is....especially if the motor is in the car.

The GE kit is hands down the best one on the market...and I've actually seen the quality firsthand. I have one in my garage.

or you can save about 50 bucks doing it your self, there is enough write ups on it out there and the ge kit tells you what all of the contents are in the kit, copy that via local parts houses and ebay...

Or you could just buy the GE and have the peace of mind that you know everything is right...like the headgasket.

lol if someone can piece one of these kits together, then they really dont need to go with the ls/vtec thing, it just wont work out too well...
