Default What I did and what i plan to do, intake manifold/T Body

1994 Honda EX 4cyl Auto Vtec
I took of my intake to polish, I looked in the throttle body and it was really dirty, so I am getting a new air filter for my intake, I made sure the intake had no leaks. I took off my throttle body and cleaned it inside and out with a clean rag and some car/choke cleaner, It cleaned up nice. My car now has a slightly better throttle responnse, and the pedal moves easier.

When i took off my throttle body I noticed my intake manifold was dirty as well, it just looked dirty from being old and uncleaned, it had alot of black. Heres my question, Since the throttle body was made from a mold and is a cast peice it has seems and is very very rough inside, could I take it off and clean it just as i did my throttle body? AND could I use a Wire brush wheel to polish the inside of the manifold? Would all the be same and should I do it? I know it's dirty, at least the cleaneing part would be ok right?

yeah, you can clean out the inside of an intake manifold using any kind of cleaner or WD-40 and a balled up rag, and yeah, a wire wheel to polish it would work, but only make a touch of difference. It's going to get dirty again soon though, unless you get a catch can. All that sludge is from oil getting in through the breather line.

Default I Noticed That

Your right, it looks like it's comming from that valve cover/ Oil breather, could I extend that and run it towards the ground?

Only if you want a grip of dirt in your oil. There are only 3 good options, catch can, breather filter, or deal with it. If you just run the line downward and let it drain on the ground it'll get dirt in there your valve train, and dirt in valvetrain and oil = really really bad.

Default Oh

I had no idea dirt would go up inside my valvetrain, I guess I will run a breather filter. Does that line suck inwards or push outwards from the valve cover?

The air going by in the intake makes vacuum and sucks out the vapors in the valve train. Breather filters are less effective because there's no force pushing or pulling the vapors out, but at least there is the opportunity for it to get out and nothing will be able to get in, and you don't have hot air going into your intake trac.
