Default which trannys are compatible with b16a?

also would it be worth it to get a new tranny instead of replacing synchros?

Any B series tranny will work. I am assuming your current tranny is cable, so any cable B series tranny will bolt up. Any B series hydraulic tranny will bolt up to a hydraulic cable system.

Most of the times, a used tranny can be cheaper than a full overhaul. It wouldn't make sense to do all that work for just a synchro. If you can find a cheaper compatible tranny for a decent price, that would be a better choice than a full overhaul.

Used or junkyard transmissions are a gamble at best IMO.

I went through 2 used transmissions on my GTi before giving in and rebuilding the stock unit. I would recommend a rebuild instead.

It may cost more, but the benefit of having warranteed work and guaranteed results are worth the added expense IMO.

Very valid point.

I should have specified that I meant a private party sale like Honda-tech or a local ad where the seller knows that the tranny doesn't grind and has been taken care of.

In my case, if I were to sell my tranny to someone, I know that it doesn't grind at all and has been taken care of, so you wouldn't run the risk of getting another grinding tranny from a junkyard pull.

A rebuild would be the best option, but certainly won't be the cheapest.
