Shorted wires somewhere. please help [DA* w/ B16 Swap]
I have a 1992 Acura Integra LS shell with a B16a swap. I was driving home the other night and all of a sudden my instrument lights started dimming on me until finally they just blacked out completely. I checked the bulbs in the gauge pod and everything seems fine. The fuse for the instrument lights is also hooked up to the tail lights and liscense plate light. I checked the wiring by the harness for the tail light bulbs and everything seems to be in order with no loose or burnt wires. As soon as I pop in a new fuse and turn on the headlights/running lights the fuse blows instantly. The brake lights will light up if I step on the pedal but they will not turn on with the lights.
You guys know where else I can check for shorts? Any advice whatsoever? Please help as I cannot drive my car at night due to it's current state.

The instrument panel is supposed to have it's own fused circuit -- separate from the taillamps /license plate lamps. So I bet that circuit overloaded and carrying too much current. Short of buying a Helms Factory Service Manual and dismantling the entire wiring harness, it's going to be a real pain to rectify all the issues.
What's the story behind the car?
Was it a salvage title car that was repaired and hybridized?
That might explain the half-assed wiring... :dunno:

The car was just purchased a week ago. I dunno the history behind it but it does look pretty half-assed (it ws $2k). However according to the information on the fuse panel the gauge pod lights, tail lights, and liscense plate lights are on the same circuit.
Actually I'm begining to believe that it may be a weather issue. The car was fine until it saw rain last night. Not to mention the dimming issue may have been a result of the voltage increasing as the water contacted the wire. I was just wondering if anybody knew any certain problem places to start. If it doesn't clear up after the weather gets better we're thinking of just running new wires to a 12v source with a simple switch. Much easier than searching the existing harnesses.
