Default why swaps of coarse........

i have recently bought a 93' civic ex.I need to do an engine swap cause the stock d16z6 is dead with 215k on it.So i was looking at putting and h22a or a b16a2 in its place. But i am wondering wat the difference is between the 2...?
am i gonna need to do more work to put in one engine?

those are 2 big different swaps, way different results, i'd go with the h22,bigger displacement. it's a tedious swap though."No replacement for Displacement"

the b16 is a pretty pissed off lil motor, ive heard of two different h22s blowin up but never the b16. the b16 is basically the b18, two extremely strong motors that love rpms all day long. bout the displacement thing, i find more fun in building a small motor that will run right beside or ahead of a bigger motor.

I had an H22 Civic and a B16 Civic. Both I like for certain reason. I'm happy with the B16 though. H22 power was awesome. It was a different swap for the time and area, and still is... I've been thinking about doing another one. I think I'll pass though. I had a lot of mula wrapped up in it when I did it.

H22a isnt the best idea, its a nightmare to get in and once its in its a big heavy, torquey bitch. The civic hatch (EG) only weighs 1060kg, so why would you put a h22a in???? Far too much torque for a car with that weight, the car will just spin everywhere.....my freind has one and it wont handle for toffee. if i wer you i'd go for the b16a2 and put the S80 ITR LSD tranny in there (like me) more traction and well better handling. Also the B16 is a more tunable engine than the H22a. Have you considered the ITR's B18c5 motor?? 187bhp standard with a 8700rpm limiter and 133ftlb of torque?? and its really tunable!

The saying "there is no replacement for displacement" is right, but also wrong because it completely depends on the car, weight and traction etc etc.

hope this helps anyways, just my opinion! Ste

H22 only weighs 35 pounds more than a GS-R, tranny and engine. Personally I'd just do a GS-R and call it a day, I'm not a fan of B16's honestly, they're fun but not fast right out of the box. H22's are fun too but it's a little involved.

Yeh You are right it is only i little bit heavier, and in terms of performance it would make like very, very little differance.....however in handling and off the line traction it will be worse.
That extra weight is well enough to upset front to rear weigh balance and that much torque in a car thats so light weight (1060kg) it's also gonna be hard coz the biggest tyres you can get in the arches of a civic (without new arches, cutting or rubbing) is like a 215 maximum, not gr8 for traction.
My freinds have a number of hondas, one with a ek h22a swap, one with a H22a prelude (and they've got Type s LSD tranny's in them) And they cant get traction for a toffee!!! especially the EK!! Just things to consider anyways.
Woteva you decide to do good luck!! Ste
