check enging light....distributor??
i got in my 97 gsr one night and turned it on and the check engine light came on. i took my car to a friends house, we checked to see which code it was and it was a code 8. we disconnected the batt and reconnected it and the check engine light stayed off. we came to the conclusion that it was a sensor in the distributor, just a misread. however, later i was driving in the country and at a 6500rpm 3rd gear shift it came back on.
any ideas?
if it is the distributor does anyone know where i can get a replacememnt???
thanks

Its the signal coming from one of the internal components in the distributor....Crankshaft position sensor/TDC sensor disconnected or interuption, TDC no signal.... What I would do is check the TDC coil (inside the distributor and see if you get continuty..... These parts can be replaced ( not sure if you can purchase them from the store) but it would take some soldering work. But you can repair the distributor you got.... no need to get a replacement unless the bearings go out or something
Code 8 would be either of these parts in part by part failure, loose/bad wiring or a misreading from the ECU at times......

hmmm.. i'm having the same problem. i got the code # 4 though, which is the crankshaft position sensor. It's keeping me from reving my engine pass 3500. I was going to buy a used distributor but if the sensor can be swapped out, i might have someone do it for me.
