Which Swap to do?
Okay, I've got a 1990 Honda CRX SI and I'm dead-set on gettinga B series engine. My current one d16(z6?) has gone to hell and back. I've got a transmission problem in 1st and 2nd. I'm going to get a B series engine for it, B16 or B18. I've looked mostly at the GSR engine and the b16a.
I like the looks of this: http://www.hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc...age&item=30004
What my main question is: What does it mean by Hydraulic Tranny, it has (S21, Y21). Do those stand for the transmission(s) available? If so, which is better, if it's more than one? I'm looking for something that can get me through gears fast.
Also, which engine would be better for turbo charging? I want a dependeble engine because I plan on turboing and intercooling it. I'm looking for decent power and track numbers. If anyone has any advice on my swap options, please feel free to let me know. Thanks.

You have a 90 CRX so that means you have a Cable Tranny, If you do decide to get the B16 with the Hydrolic tranny you would have to get the Hasport Cable to Hydrolic conversion kit. You do know that make that Engine with a cable tranny rigth? http://hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc2000...age&item=30002 That one would be better and its a direct bolt on. Or you can always go with an LS which would be better to boost than the b16 IMO. And theres always the ZC motor which would also be good for boosting. There are many options its up to you to decide what you want
It really comes down to what kind of budget you have to work with.
Obviously a b18c is going to run a lot more then a first gen b16a, then add the turbo on top of that.
For the money I would go with either a b16a (sir1) or an ls w/a b16a tranny.
Then invest in the tuning.

Your car is currently cable so you want to get a cable tranny. 92- up are hydrolic amd pre-92 are cable.
Sir1's run about $1,200 complete while sir2's (hydrolic) run about $2,000+
To swap a sir2 you would need to also purchase a hydro/cable conversion or acable tranny. Save yourself the headache and go with the sir1, it drops right in and you can go on to the turbo.
I was going to go with the SIR-1, I just wanted to know that if I got the cable to hydraulic conversion kit, what the benefit would be? I've heard from plenty of people that they are a lot more effecient and easier to drive than cable clutches.
I want to know the spec-side of whether or not it is true. The Sir-1 is what I am going to buy reguardless. If it'll drop right in with the minimal amount of money, I'll get it. I just want to know if I should purchase the hydro conversion kit as well.

Yeah, I didn't think about that until I replied to his post.
However, say that I did want to get a hydraulic transmission, would the reliability and driveability be any better? Would it get into gear smoother?

No, a lot of people prefer cable over hydrolic because it's a mechanical connection and you can feel the shifts better (firmer shifts). I personally like both, they are both equally good in my book.
Both are reliable. You would be wasting a lot of money trying to swap your car from cable to hydrolic...
