Default which tuning device?...

i have a B18c in my 98 civic ex..currently i have i,h,e. I was thinking about going with hondata because of their good reputation also i have an authorized honda dealer/tuner 5 minutes away from my house. Not really askign about prices here, but rather quality and performance differences between all the ecu upgrades out there.

You don't need hondata until you do some actual mods. Tuning a stock motor will not give you anything but an empty wallet. Drop in some cams, higher compression pistons, or some sort of forced induction and then you can think about it.

Depends on what your goals are and how much you want to spend. Aftermarket pistons will require aftermarket rods, so you need to consider the cost of all that. It is the best choice for a buildup, but the price will also dictate that.

What kind of compression do you want to be running?

well at first i was thinking about going for NA..but according to alot of peoples experience with Turbo's on the GSR engines it seems much better..

i don't want to spend more then $8000 total ... (not all at once but you kno what i mean )

You could have a very solid and safe turbo setup making twice as much power than an N/A setup with the same amount of money. You could do everything right with stronger internals, solid engine management, and a nicely matched turbo. Turbo is much better if you want easier power than N/A for less money.
