Default I hurt my transmission :(

Me bein the genius that I am, I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing, and I threw my car into 1st gear, intending to shift into 3rd, going about 45mph The engine shot way past the redline, probably in the 9,000 range. It was only there for a second, at the very most, so the engine doesn't seem any worse off, but...

In 4th and 5th gear, I hear a very distinct whirring sound. I'm pretty sure that it's the outer shaft bearings (furthest away from the flywheel), since I don't hear it until I shift into 4th gear. It gets a little louder when it's in 5th. The transmission's always been noisy, it's high miles, nothing serious, just some very light static-sounding noise at low engine rpm.

Anyone know specifically which bearings I damaged? This transmission also has a failing 3rd gear synchro, so I was thinking one of two things...either just find a decent replacement, or tear it apart and invest in a Honda rebuild kit for the tranny. Any ideas? thanks

Honda doesn't sell rebuild kits for trannies, you basically have to go through the tranny and order each seal, bearing and synchro that you want to replace, clean everything, lube it initially and then re-assemble.

About 6 hours from time of disassembly to re-assembly as long as you don't have to re-shim any wear items, if you have all the parts on hand.
