Default carb legal cams

i read somewhere that skunk2 stage 1 were carb pending. anyonw know if they've been certified carb legal yet? is it possible to add any sort of cams whether it be toda, jun, or skunk, and still pass smog in Cali? my long term goal is to build a street legal car. has anyone here built a fast car that can pass smog in cali? thanks. sorry if i sound naive...i'm new.

The CARB legality of a given set of cams shouldn't really matter as long as you pass emissions. I doubt a smog ref is going to tear down your engine to make sure all of its internals are stock or CARB approved. Even if a set of cams was given a CARB EO, it doesn't necessarily mean you'd be able to pass emisions with them, since numerous tuning and maintenance factors can affect your emissions numbers. To answer your question, you *should* be able to pass emissions with Skunk I's if your cat is working properly(make sure it's good and hot before you roll into the smog station), and if your car isn't horribly out of tune. I guess my point is that you shouldn't place too much emphasis on whether a cam has been certified and given a CARB EO, since you could have a plethora of parts with EO's and still fail emissions because of something as simple as a dirty throttle plate.

With some adjustable cam gears you could dial out a bit of overlap if needed.
