Default cam question

ok here it goes. ive been wondering about this for a while so now im going to post it to all of you. i have a 96 GSR and i really want to upgrade my cams to say, skunk2 stage2. but right now i enjoy mileage in the 28-30 mpg range in the city. ya i drive like a ***** most of the time but it pays :fawk: i know that if i got stage2s, my mileage would plummet to what i imagine would be low 20s. correct me if im wrong here. so my question is this: is there a set of cams that i can buy that have stock non-vtec lobes, but with stage2 vtec lobes? i want the car to rip when i hit vtec, but before that i want to maintain my economy. this is sort of the point of vtec anyways, right? does anyone else wish they offered cams like these?

you can have cams custom made. Crower, WebCam, Jun, Gude, and I'm sure lots of other companies can make special grinds at your request.

well i went to crowers website and they have exactly what i want. stock idle lobes with stage2 vtec lobes. it requires a valvetrain upgrade as well, and its only $650. i was never a fan of crower but i guess ill have to become one.

Erm what is the difference between all the different cams ? I understand the different cams have different profiles and oso how they work but . . . for example . . if i compare CTR, Skunk, Toda and JUN cams . . Issit that the different between them is that power come at different RPM base on the different profiles ? ? ? And i often heard u poeple says about more aggresive profiles lobes on the cams . . more aggresive cams will have what advantage ? ? ?

And . . Someone told me that choosing cam sometimes gotto depends on the CR . . but how we know the cam can work under what kind of CR ? ? ?

And lastly . . how to choose a cam to your liking ? ? issit go by at what RPM you wanna have the power then get a cam with the profile ? ?

Sorry for the really ignorance question but i really don't know Bare with me please :naughty:

long duration and high overlap cams will work the best with high compression pistons. with heavy overlap intake air is actually coming into the combustion chamber and then going straight out through the exhasut valve, resulting in less intake air available for compression. That lose of air resulits in a pressure lose when the pistons comes up to compress the mixture. Higher compression pistons make up for that lose and takes more advantage of the heavy overlap design of the cams.

More aggressive cams will produce more power. It is just like comparing your stock cams to some Toda C cams. Not only will the Todas make power at a higher RPM, they will make much more power all throughout the powerband (assuming you have all the neccessary supporting mods).
