Which Tranny is best for my car??
Ok, first off i'm new in here so thanx 2 any1 who helps me.
Now my problem is i have a 1994 civic vti uk car Hatch back (b16a2 160bhp engine)
and when i change into 3rd when i'm ragging it, it grinds, its been doing it for bout 6mnths and its got alot worse, i know its the syncros and do not want 2 put new 1's in my tranny instead im just gonna put a new tranny in. Heres wer my dilema starts, I want an lsd which my car doesnt come with, i was going to put the integra type R tranny in which comes with a lsd but then thers lots more questions i have on that, like.....
1.which tranny has shorter ratios the civic vti 1 or the integra 1?? and by how much?? i'm running 175bhp proven and aim to do cams and chip nxt so i want resonably long ratios, is this right or should i want short ratios? i do want a reasonable cruzing gear (for freeways)
2. In the uk (not sure about other markets US etc) they do an estate 1.8vti and a 5door hatch 1.8vti which from 1998> had a lsd and the same ratios as the 1.6vti,i know they do have lsd's but do they have the same ratios 4 sure?? they are both B series engines so i wud imagine the trannys bolt on!?
3.Will i need to change drive shafts etc 2 componsate for wider/longer tranny?
4.lastly, would i get a clutch for the integra engine or for the civic engine? i would think the civic engine coz the clutch bolts to the flywheel.
Thanx for any help any1 can give me!!! Laters Ste

Somebody feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but to the best of my knowledge, here is what I can tell you:
1. None that I know of. ITR is probably your best choice (unless you want to go with an older cable tranny, which I don't recommend). Don't forget you also have an option of swapping shorter gear sets, if you really want shorter gearing (quite pricey, though).
2. We don't have any of those trims here, but all b-series trannies will bolt on. The only thing you need to worry about is the older trannies, which are cable trannies. You should stick with a hydro tranny to save alot of headaches
3. In some cases, yes (depends which tranny you decide to get), but I don't think you'll have a problem using the ITR tranny. I believe the CV shafts are interchangeable.
4. The flywheel follows the engine, and the clutch follows the tranny.
Again, i'm not 100% positive on everything, but if somebody notices any mis-information, please feel free to step in a set me straight

Thanks eclypz for ur reply, I think my car the vti is known as a si in the US, anywayz after talking to a few mates in my area they think the integra type r (i think this is known in da US as a integra GSR??) is the best tranny to go with, as my car is 175bhp with 120 f/lb torque and the integra is 187bhp with peak torque of 131 f/lb, as my car is also 40kg lighter and i aim to get it chipped and cam'd (stage 1) i should be producing that or more than that neway (i think?) so it shouldn't slow my car down in 4th and 5th gear, but it will make it quicker in 1st,2nd and 3rd!! i hope so anyway!
Is the integra tranny stronger/harder wearing than the civic tranny??
I also have 1 question rergarding cams, is it possible to get cams which are stage 1 before vtec and stage 2 after?? if not why? if so, where can i get them!!
thanx for ur help agen all info is valued.

just to let you know an itr tranny is nearly identical to the tranny you have right now except an itr tranny has an lsd stock.
an itr to you is an itr to us. at least the DC2 chassis.
there are lots of cams out there that have a primary lobe thats good on the idle, makes nice midrange, and still has a killer vtec lobe.
