the going rate is about $100-120 or so for shot peening 4 rods. I'm sure there are other cheaper places, but thats the avg rate.
on top of that, to strengten the ls rods, its recommended to upgrade to ARP rod bolts.
thats about $35-40.00

To use the ARP bolts, you cant just screw them in, you have to machine them to fit properly. If you dont, it distorts the rod bearing area and it goes out of round. This service is another $80 or so.
So that puts you about $250 just to shot peen and strenghten the LS rods.

If you arent planning on making over 250hp, the STOCK LS rods are fine. If you are boosting or making plenty of HP, then you should be going with aftermarket rods like EAGLE rods already.

So to sum it up:

Either you stay with LS rods or go Aftermarket.
Its not worth it to shot peen and strengten the stock LS rods.

How much HP and RPM will the LS stock rods handle. I want to upgrade to ARP rod bolts. I want about 190-210 HP and no more than 8500 RPM. Thanks J

stock rods cant take 8500 RPMS, dont take your chances, just go aftermarket. Eagle H Beams and Crower Econo Billets are both rods that you should consider, both have a good reputation and are designed to handle rev's like that...

I hate to say this, but I cant really afford aftermarket right now. I know in an engine build that sounds stupid. If I were to go with aftermarket rods then I would have to go with aftermarket pistons also. Im not going to run nitrous turbo or anything on them. The pistons are like $400, then rods are like $350. Thats why I would just rather use my ls rods. It would save me alot of money and time. Im going to use ITR pistons also.

if you arent planning to spend that much, then dont plan to take it up to 8500 RPM as well.

Stay at 8000 RPM and you should be fine with the LS rods.

Why just stage one? Why not something more aggressive to ensure you make your target horsepower range?

From what other users of the S2 Stage 2 Cams say is that it has a little bit of lope at idle. I dont know the stage 1's arnt that agressive(a bit more than a CTR) and seem good for a daily driver. Im willing to consider the stage 2s though.
