What body?
84-87: aftermarket EMS or serious rewiring.
88-91: PR3 or PW0 and V-AFC, or 90-91 PR4 and RPM switch and S-AFC
92+: P72, preferably with V-AFC

Or a P30 from the DelSol Vtec.

im not a chip fan. I would rather have stock oem maps and so forth in there instead of something that someone just decided would work well. Plus I am gonna turbo some time within my life so what would a chip do me then. Thanks for all of the ecu enlightment, I am sure I can score atleast on of these for a good price.

Well, by that logic, you shouldn't build an ls/vtec, because it's not oem, it's just something that someone thought would work well.

The P30 is the wrong ecu because, it's a 1.6L.
The P72 is the wrong ecu, because it is optimized for the GSR intake manifold, and GSR cams, with a really low vtec level. Plus you will have to add a knock sensor.

The P73, ITR ecu, would be the closest to a 1.8 Vtec. But those only come in OBD2 flavor, which means additional wiring of sensors.

The P30 and P72 can both be chipped to work well with an LSVTEC. VTEC point can be changed on the GSR, and the P30 can be mapped with more fuel if need be, although it would run fine on the stock ECU. I too would run a P28 simply for cost factor over the other 2, and they are easier to come by than a P30.
