Alright i looked at my exhaust yesterday because i need to pass saftey and emissions this month. I found out that about 3 feet of tailpipe right after the muffler is cracked and the bottom of the muffler is almost rusted out. Everything up by the converter looks good, so i took it to mieneke for an estimate, they said about 360 for everything. what made it so expensive is that they wanted to charge 270 for a new muffler. Why so much??? is there anywhere i can get a muffler for cheaper and then just have them put it on? also, if i get a hi-performance muffler, will it pass emissions?? thanks guys for any help!

 

A good aftermarket universal muffler can be had for $200 or less. I'm not sure if it'll pass a visual inspection in Utah, but mufflers don't affect emissions. If you're catalyst is in good working order, your tailpipe emissions should be fine.

 

heck yea man... 270 is a rip off for a stock muffler... if i was you i would go to get a aftermarket and take it somewhere like usa muffler or ice cold air i don't know if they have such kind of bussinesses up there named that but there like little mechanic shops that will weld on a muffler for $60.00 to $80.00 i am sure you have something like that up there....

but even pep boys sells aftermarket mufflers for like $130.00
so don't waste your time for that stock one...

i bought a cat back online for less then 300.00 and it fits perfect in the stock spots with no weldding... so you just have to look around....

hang in there though and forget rip off city
