Weird Swap (sort of)...
hi guys, i used to be an old member of honda-acura.net, and now i'm back under a new name. what better way to start off than with an engine swap
alright so i have an auto 93 Civic LX with a dying engine (D15B7). it has a busted head gasket and there is a very good chance that the head is warped and or cracked. i figured i'll keep the car as my commuter car so i'd like to put a new motor in there. i've decided on a D16Z6 and the car has to stay auto for reasons beyond my control. i'd like to know how hard it would be and what needs to be changed. can i stay with the tranny? both are odb-1 but i would still need an ecu from an EX for a vtech controller right? i'm new to the honda world so...
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Get a p28 from an auto car, and everything else will bolt up fine. The only thing you'll need to do is add a few wires for vtec. VERY easy swap. Same mounts, exhaust fitment, etc. One thing that many people struggle with is getting the tranny off the motor with the auto. you'll have to take off the flywheel cover plate, and there are a bunch of 10mm bolts that connect the "flywheel plate" to the torque converter. You'll have to turn the engine over by hand to get them all out. Once that's done, and you disconnect the cable for the shifter, you're good to go. Real easy and straight forward.
