Is the motor swap from a d15a to ZC illeagal
as long as the motor is from a newer car than the car its going into, its legal everywhere (including CA). In many states it doesn't matter whatsoever; you could throw a '75 454 in there, and as long as it passes emissions, youre good to go.

What state do you live in?

According to the WA DMV website, emissions testing is only required by law in urban areas of Clark, King, Pierce, Snohomish and Spokane counties.

You may not have to worry about legality issues at all. Check local laws, but it appears to be pretty lax there

:edit: Oops, I guess youre in Snohomish... just check w/ your dmv and ask them what their laws regarding engine replacement are.

i dont think swapping anything into that car is going to be easy. considering you have to overhaul the entire fuel system. and when you're done, you're going to want to overhaul the brake system too. my advice is to get another car if you want a swap. but if you have to get a new engine, then call around to engine suppliers or junk yards and find a brown top engine from an 86-87 integra. thats a straight swap. you just need the engine, tranny, axles, hubs, shift linkage, and computer. wires hook right up with no drama. any other first gen ZC would be about the same but a little wiring work.

just remember, stuff on those cars is only gonna come off half the time. the other half, its going to be rusted on and you'll have to cut it off. i had an 85 crx si and its in the junk yard now. it was unworkable. just make sure everything comes off okay before you go out and spend $500 on parts. good luck with your project.

well the engine is just about out i was gonna put rings in it but i realized that it only has 86 horse power and on top of that its gonna be like 200 dollars to replace everything i took out (rings, bearings, headgasket, pan gasket, etc, etc....) so the gine right now is justa block on the tranny nothing more. i also have to set timing and thats somthing that i hate more than life so putting a new engine in sounded easier in the long run but maybe i was mistaken i dunno we will see

thanks for your help

ill try to keep yah posted
