Ok, before you say something, i've searched for this, nobody has this issue, its a weird one at that!

This is happening on a 93 Civic EX Coupe AT

First lets start off that one friday i replaced my pads and rotors. The next day both my cv boots broke and the same day i had pep boys replace both axles with remanufactured ones.

After this i started to notice a noise from the passenger front wheel ONLY when braking at a LOW speed. AND it only does it after it gets hot, I have to drive it a while to heat up the pads and rotors(or maybe something else is heating up? i.e. cv joint?).

I took it back to pep boys and they STRONGLY said it was a brake issue and not a cv axle issue. So i said "ok" and thought to myself that "i must have put the pads and rotors on wrong".

I checked every detail, they are put on correctly on both sides. Both sides are identical and rotors seem fine(they are brand new).

I bent back dust cover in case it was rubbing, still noise.

I also read that it could be a defective bearing. If this was the case, it would do it all the time, not just when braking correct?

Now after 2 weeks of tryin to figure this out, i'm beginning to think its a defective passenger side cv axle? But why would it only make a noise when braking? Thats the question i'm asking you guys.

So if i don't get any answers/results here, i'll have to take it to a brake shop to get it "diagnosed". Hopefully that wont cost too much, i also hope they say its the cv axle thats bad and i'll just take it to pep boys and get it replaced for free.

hmmm what type of rotors did you put on your car ?

Did you break the rotors and pads in correctly? Did you check the bearing when you had everything apart? It could be the bearings even though it does not happen all the time. Also, why let PEP Boys do anything? It could also be cheap aftermarket rotors and cheap pads. I need more specifics on what parts were used. brand names, etc.

 

That's exactly what I was thinking. If the rotors were cheap, the first time you heat them up good, they are junk. I did that once with a set of $11 rotors. They lasted about two months before I couldn't take it any more. Also, if the pads are juck, it can happen that fast as well.

Did you clean the rotors properly before you put them on? Most rotors come with a thin layer of oil to protect them during shipping. It must be removed before using them.

 

I did break the pads in correctly, i however did not know there was a break in process for the rotors. Remember, this is not a wobble while breaking, its just a noise. There is no vibration feedback through the steering wheel.

Why let pep boys do anything? U mean install the cv axles? At the time i was in a time pinch and i needed the car the next day.

The rotors were $22 a piece. Not sure of brand but i can get that if absolutely needed.

I did not clean the rotors, I was unaware that this could hurt. How can a layer of oil hurt if i burned them off correctly?

Did you use some type of brake quiet grease? If not, thats most likely your problem. The pads are vibrating when they hit the rotor. Just get some of that brake quiet grease from your local autostore and put it on the back of the pads.
