Default engine repair question

lack of oil killed my engine today...heard a loud rattle for about 5 seconds, and as i pulled over, it completely died. was told it could be the head gasket, or the whole block. What do you this will cost me to get my car running again? d series block 2000 civic

I think it'll cost you the price of a new bottom end. Most likely you spun one or more rod bearings.

Also remove and inspect valve train oil starvation can do some nasty things up there too. I'd say chuck it for a new engine IMO.

ok...is there a list online of what engines swap into a civic with minimal work? also, it's for an automatic, from what i can tell, it didn't effect the tranny, so what do i really need? just the block and head?

eh...posted the wrong link, but i just want it running...how much do you think a d16 should cost me? aiming for used at about 50k miles. also, i shouldn't need to swap tranny, so it doesn't matter if i pull if from an automatic or a manual does it?

For just d16 block and head, you can probably find something for $300 or less. Definately less than $500, even if you're picky.

ugh...didn't find anything here in florida for less that $700 w/40k. what is the fastest d16 block there is, and do they make one with 160+hp? Also, what would i have to change if i went from a d16 to a b16 other than engine/tranny/cams?

is it feasible to go to a b18 as well...and is this doable for under $5k?
