Default lost reverse, why??

The reverse in my 91 Civ Hatch has gone out. some people say its in the trans and others say its from how bad my clutch is. see my clutch used to slip real bad until i adjusted it (cable) then it stopped slipping and worked good. then 1 day i put it in reverse and backed out of my garage and put to 1st adn drove to my friends. when i got there i had to move it. i went to put it back in reverse and it wouldnt budge. it wont even go into the gear, its just stuck??? whats wrong????

have you tried to put it in 1st gear and THEN reverse? mine did that too, i thought it was my tranny going.. but just try that or i sometimes just go through all the gears and then reverse and it goes right in.

I doubt a clutch would only cause one gear not to work...sounds like something in the tranny..

Typical reasons why a tranny doesn't shift into a gear would include:

Internal linkage or shift rail worn or damaged...

shift rail detent pluger worn, spring broken or plug loose

or synchronizer sleeves or hubs damaged or worn..
