Default GSR Swap>Civic/ECU Wire Harness

My freind has bought a 98 civic (originally ex) with a 97 GSR motor swap. Everything seems to function well, except for the speedometer/odometer. We have checked the fuse for the vss and all other fuses, all is fine, and even changed the speed sensor itself. The gauge cluster also was tested on another car and functions well also.

Heres what I'm assuming the problem may be at. The engine wiring harness is not a gsr harness, but a civic one with what looks like some custom wiring done to it, looking somewhat sloppy. So, my friend purchased a gsr wiring harness thinking we can just plug and play this thing. Problem, the integra harness has what seems to be a seperate harness that comes out of the firewall(passenger side/ecu) that connects to the main wiring harness. The civics harness is all one peice. So, would I need to get the integra harness that comes out of the ecu? Could this even be the problem with the speedometer? Thanks.

Just get another EX (5spd) harness. You'll have to extend a few connectors, but thats it. the rest is plug and play.

One question, did you replace the entire VSS? From the plug to the gear that goes into the trans?

We did change the VSS located on top of the tranny and no luck.

You can actually seperate the vss into 2 halves. I will call it the out side half and the inside half. The inside half is what remains in the tranny, but can also be pulled out. The out side half is where the plug will go. I have seen either half go bad. Thats why i asked. When you replaced it, Was what you replaced long and have the plug on one end and a gear on the other, or did it have a plug on one end and a small hole on the other?

Another idea, i have seen the actual vss plug corrode to the point that one or more of the pins fell out. Or the plug comeing off the harness can corrode to the point that the pins will break inside the connector. GENTLY tug on each individual wire, if thats the case, it will slide right out. Cut it off and splice a new one on there.

Just trying to help. Let me know if it helps.
