Default broken bolt

Hi.

I have a 98 Civic hatch with a JDM B18C.

On the front transmission motor mount that connects to the frame, I broke one of the nuts that is welded to the inner part of the frame.

So one of the bolts is attached properly and the other spins.

I want to remove this mount so that I can add polyurathane inserts. However, I'm not sure how to do this.

I think I have enough room to saw the bolt off, but then I'll have the nut loose in the chassis and no way to reattach the mount.

Is there some sort of heavy duty toggle bolt?

Would it be bad to cut a hole in the frame, Or do I have to weld?

Please give me your input or experiences.

Thanks.
Adam

Does anyone have a picture of a civic or integra with the fender off?

Maybe you can get to the nut if the fender is off...

Thanks

Loosen the mount as much as you can, don't remove the bolt on the loose nut entirely, and get a welder in there to tack the nut back in place.

Then proceed as normal.

thanks for the reply 1stgenCRXer,

how can i weld the nut back into place if i cant get inside the frame?

im not an expert in welding by any means,
but wouldn't you have to be able to see the nut and get the welder inside?

thanks,

You'll be able to see the edge of the captive nut once you get the mount down out of the way enough. You just want to tack it enough that it won't move when you take the bolt the rest of the way.

Then to weld it back on, strip the paint away from the area, and have a single sided spot welder used around the edge of the hole while holding the nut against the unibody with the nut, and viola, the nut will be held in place, and you won't have to cut a hole in the frame to do it.

Of course, if you don't have a mig or stick welder and a single sided spot welder, you'll need to get to a place that does.
