I did this once and had great success with polyeurethane paint.

It comes in a lot of colors, it can handle temps of 350º-450º, it is self levelling so it is easy to put on, and it's super cheap.

It is really stinky, so do it way out-doors, maybe not in the garage. I had a bit of a buzz when I was done. It was on my car for 2 years, and never faded or chipped off.

i would use either vht or plastikote caliper paint...the plastikote sells in a kit so that might be the best bet....any parts store should be able to get it...otherwise check the web

If you're painting old brake calipers, you'll definitely want to sand or sandblast them so that the paint sticks better. Cleaning away any rust or corrosion so that the paint can stick, regardless of the paint type, is a must.

Yes i was planning on sanding everything really well before painting. Do the Plastikote and VHT paints give the caliper a kind of glossy look? And can I buy these at an Auto Zone or Advanced Auto?

My buddy has his calipers painted blue and they look really dull and they even looked dull when he first painted them.

Thanks

Do you need any kind of a primer before you paint the calipers? And what about the drum brakes in the back, where would you paint on those?

here's what I did, I went to Pep Boys, bought their Red Caliper Paint, I sanded down all my calipers the best I could and I painted them nice. When its wet you'll see brush strokes but let it dry and in a few minutes it will be a very nice gloss look. It looks very very nice, I will try to get pics up.

Also, no primer is needed. Same thing for the back brakes. Sand down. make sure you tape off brake lines just to be safe.

you do if the paint calls for it. if you can't find the other stuff, just use hi-temp engine enamal. it is made to hand very high temps, and will work well. it should also appear glossy. also, if you can find it, use a matching hi-temp primer. primer is porous and that is what paint sticks to. it's your best insurace.
