you do if the paint calls for it. if you can't find the other stuff, just use hi-temp engine enamal. it is made to hand very high temps, and will work well. it should also appear glossy. also, if you can find it, use a matching hi-temp primer. primer is porous and that is what paint sticks to. it's your best insurace.
