Default 1990 Honda Accord tail lights

My niece has a 90 Accord with the tail lights not working. I believe this may be related to the light switch/turn signal on the steering column. Her brake lights, backup lights, turn signal, and head lights all work. Can anyone tell me where to start? Thanks.

Have you replaced the bulbs firstly? Those are like 99 cents at the dealer. If that doesn't fix it, you will have to check out the wiring.

i also have a 90 accord. similar problem where my brake lights stopped working even after replacing all the bulbs. i took it to a mechanic and they said this model usually has problem with the controller and they tend to die out. you can replace that to see if that will fix the problem but the controller is quite expensive though.

same here....on my g/f's 1990 Accord, the right taillight (the one on the trunk, not the corner/fender) doesnt turn on, but it does when you press the brakes.

I replaced it with a new bulb, and it worked, but then the LEFT side brake/taillights didnt work anymore! Yes, I checked all the bulbs, and they were all correct.

I then put the original bulb back in (which looks half burnt), and it still didnt work!

Somehow, after I closed the trunk (ground issue?) it all seems to work like it did in the first place. So I learned my lesson...DO NOT touch any bulbs in this car!

^haha, funny story.

check your light bulb harness's connection surfaces, scrape those with a screw driver or something to clean them off for better connection surface.

get a power checker and do a little testing and see if it's the harness problem, if it is..
then i don't know..haha. good luck.

I know this sounds really dumb, but could somebody guide me through on how to change the tail light bulbs. I have no clue on how to get to them, tried going through the trunk, but couldn't get the cover off or anything. I'm confused on how to do it. All help would be greatly appreciated.
