Default opinions anyone?

ok here's the deal. i threw a rod bearing in my b16. i have a complete built top end, and a complete stock bottom end. this is why she threw the bearing. now the problem i am faced is what to do with it...should i put in a lightweight crank (where can i find one???) or should i stroke it? what should i do from here? whats the cheapest and best route? where can i go from here.

i know of a ls motor, i can get ahold of its bottom end. only thing is can i do that transplant? b18 crank n stuff to a b16...it would be my cheapest bet if possible.

What do you use the car for?

Stroking an engine takes away some of your rev potential, and a lightweight crank makes city driving more difficult than having a lightened flywheel.

In that case, I'd probably look to change blocks all together if you want some more displacement. A nice B18C block should hold up nicely and let you end up with a poor man's ITR. The B16 just doesn't have the kind of deck height I would be comfortable putting a longer stroke on.

Yeah, you can put that head on a b20 or b18a/b block, but you're going to need to do the standard modifications that every frankenstein build requires. With the B18C block, it wouldn't be an issue.

what are these standard modifications you speak of? so i can bolt up to a b18 good to go? cause i got a b18 sitting at my shop with a blown head gasket wanting to be loved. only thing abou tthose is that i have heard you will throw a rod bearing...exactly what i did, if you throw a b16 head on it? is there any counter measures i can go with to prevent this? am i looking at an insane machine if i do this too? what would you do?

imagine this situation...fuct off b16 block, a b16 pnp race head with all the goodies, and an ls engine. what would you do? anyone?

Search for "LS/VTEC", it's all been covered before.

If you try to rev it like a B16, yes. Something in the bottom end will go. The B18A/B bottom was not ment to rev over 6500-6800, depending on year.

Build the bottom end, and use a crank girdle. (modify a B18C to fit or buy one from Z10 engineering)

Oh, and yes. A properly assembled LS/VTEC is a crazy beast.

so is there anyway i can just get a lightweight crank not the pulley, the whole crank. i want to keep the 8200 rev. toda make a stroker kit for it but is it worth it?

You can have the crank knife-edged and balanced, that will lighten both your crank and your wallet.

Stroking the B16 block is a bad idea IMHO. If I had to stroke a Honda motor, it would be a B18A/B with a deck plate setup.
