Default crx dead??

my girl drove the crx and she call me telling me its dead...i went to pick her up and check it out. so when i got there i just add gas in there thinking its out of gas, but it wasnt IT DID NOT START!

it doesnt turn over..just a long erhhhhhhhhh sound, thats it. i took the timing belt cover off and when try to start it..the belt shake and i hear the crankshaft spining, and the camshaft jerk a lil bit. also the belt is loose.

the car is 90 si, 188k miles, i changed the sparks, themostat and got new battery for it a month ago. the alternator is good because when i got a new battery i unhook the battery to see if it still run, and it does.

what could it be? some people suggest its the belt, just want some more imput. THANKS!!

Uh... if the cam doesn't turn when you crank the car, it's severely out of time and the belt is either broke or so loose that by now it is stripped. STOP CRANKING IT! If there are some valves down and you've been cranking it, chances are they are already toast and your head needs rebuilt. In any case, the timing belt should be replaced, have the crank and cam timing spot on, and tighten the belt to a reasonable tension, and then re-tensioned after about 2k miles.

If the cam doesn't move when you crank it, then no, it couldn't be anything other than a dropped timing belt that may or may not have destroyed some things inside the engine.

Is there a way to check if the head need work or not?

And if the head is okay, then I just need to get a new belt and re-align the camshaft and crankshaft to TDC mark correct?

thanks alot 1stgen, and sorry for all the newbie questions

A quick way is to see if any rocker arms are super loose under the valve cover, if they are, chances are there is a bent valve holding the spring down away from the arm and cam.

Other than that, see if you can get the marks aligned with a new timing belt on and see if you can rotate the engine with the valve cover off and verify everything is moving properly while you or someone else rotates the engine with a ratchet and socket, NOT THE STARTER.

i just wanted to say that its really bad if u unhook the battery while the car is on, that can damage the ecu, that way of checking the alternator is for old skool cars. just giving u and other people a heads up caus ehtat can lead to majhor issues later on down the road.

peace
