Default What should i Shift at if....

Hey i need a little bit of help here, what should i shift from 1st to second in a 91 Civic Hatchback Si with a 88 CRX si motor, aem cai, fuel pressure reg., chikara header, thermal exaust, bosch spark plugs, cuz it seems like whenever i shift 6000 rpm or redlin 6500 from 1st gear it will grind hard and it sounds so bad when it does... but i looked up my peak hp is at 6000 rpm but would that change since i have mods??? and my peak tq is at 5000 rpm so i'm thinking about shifting at 5500 in 1st gear, is that good or would i be loosing a lot of power that way? Please Help!!!! thank you for all who respond

sounds like you have worn 1-2 gear synchros (making the grinding sound)...look into getting another tranny or get it fixed

you can also rev match when shifting into gears to reduce wear on the tranny

Also make sure you are taking time to depress the clutch between shifts if your too early with the shift you will get a grind. Till you get to the track you'll have to just practice getting the feel of your car.

rev matching.......when you're down shifting, match the revs so it's a smooth transition. Normally when you shift, you hit the clutch, release the gas, shift, release the clutch and hit the gas......when you hit the clutch/release gas your revs drop, so you gotta get them back up to down shift and try to match them up w/the next gear....hard to explain, easier to show!!

i think for my 1st to 2nd gear i have to wait a little longer cuz from 2nd to 3rd i can throw that stick into gear like nothing, no grind at all. but i also have a short throw shifter.
