Default Best engine?

okay I have come to the conclusion that i need a New Engine I'm lookin at either the JDM DOHC ZC 1.6L (D16Z6) or the JDM D15B V-TEC
which one would be better for me i'm looking for power and speed.

I do believe the b16a is better(more horsepower). A little more pricey, but worth it, i'm sure. If i've still got my CRX when it needs another motor, i'm getting the b16a for it.

The JDM DOHC ZC 1.6L is a totally different engine than the D16Z6... The D16Z6 is SOHC with VTEC, comes from USDM 92-95 Civic EX/Si's... The DOHC ZC is DOHC non-VTEC comes in JDM 88-92 CRX/Civic Si's & Integras (forgot which ones)... There is a version of the ZC that is SOHC and VTEC, and is similar to the D16Z6, just with a more agressive cam... If your talking about this one, Id choose that over the D15B VTEC, because its almost the same engine (same agressive cam), with .1 more displacement, so more low end torque than the D15B...

But as for DOHC ZC vs the others, I dont know... Some will argue the DOHC design is better than the SOHC even with VTEC... But it has limited after market support, and is an older engine... I hear that the ones being sold now are the 'bottom of the barrell' stock, which means they are the shitty ones they didnt sell yrs back, and are now running out of the good ones... But this is just what I heard...

I personally went with the D15B VTEC for my swap... Still havnt swapped it yet, but Im sure Ill love it!

As tankard said, probably the best swap for a CRX or EF Civic is the B16A from a JDM CRX/Civic SiR... Its got 160HP stock, and is fast as hell (in the light weight EF chasis)... But they are a tad more expensive than the others spoke of in this thread... And I say best only because of price, ease of install (its relatively easy since both car and engine are pre-OBD), and amount of power... In other words, best bang for the buck...

A D16A is a D series engine, with 1.6 liters, the A signifies its a an earlier model, but there should be a trailing number as there are different models with different HPs and specs...

D16A1 Acura Integra 1986-1987
D16A3 Acura Integra 1988-1989
D16A3 Acura Integra 1988-1989
D16A6 Honda Civic Si/CRX Si 1988-1991
D16A6 Honda Civic EX 1990-1991
D16A8/9 Acura Integra 1988-1989
(For specs on these engines go here: http://www.integra.orcon.net.nz/engines)

And the B16A (the 1 I was talking about is)
B16A 1.6 16V DOHC VTEC PGM-FI 1595 160hp@7800rpm 111tq@7300rpm 89-91 Civic SiR

Not sure if u know this, but reading Honda engine codes, the first letter is the series of engine... The next 2 numbers are the displacement, so a D16 is a D series 1.6 liter engine... A B18 is a B series 1.8 liter engine... An F24 is an F series 2.4 liter engine... The next letter tells the specifics of the engine, and the next number after that tells even more specifics... Note that the JDM engines dont have an actual stamp on the for the last number... Like a USDM B16A3 (from a Del Sol VTEC) would be stamped as such, a B16A1 (as its commonly reffered too) from a CRX SiR would be stamped only B16A... The 1 is just added by everyone to distinquish its the preOBD with cable tranny version of the B16A...

Go B series, it's the only way... "The only work that should ever be done on a D series is taking it out."

Single cam  To be honest, just because a motor has VTEC doesn't make it anything special. A B18B with a few simple mods can easily overpower a B16A.

To my knowldge there is no such thing as a D16A with VTEC... Maybe a D16A6 Mini-me... but there is no stock D16A VTEC engine... The VTEC D series engines are D16Z6, D16Y8, D16Y7, and JDM D15B VTEC... The JDM SOHC ZC is a ZC series engine, not a bad engine, its like the USDM D16Z6 with a more agressive cam...

Every one has a B series now of days... Fact is, a SOHC VTEC engine in a light weight EF makes for a damn good swap... And even more so with turbo... And I would like to see the look on ppls face when u smoke them with a D series... Sure they have an advantage... But thats what makes it so much fun... Ppl think they can swap a B in their car and they will be the fastest on the planet... Its not even about the engine most of the time, but the driver... If u have a B series and cant drive it, chances are a stock ass D will walk all over you...
