Default Will not go in first.

The car will go in all gears fine except first. It's a 91 crx si. I was smoking the front tires yesterday, and tried changing to second. It felt like it got caught between first and second. I let the clutch out and i heard all kinds of gosh awful noises while it was redlined. After this, it will not go in first at all. Could it be that i bent the first/second selector fork in the trans or what? What would a used tranny cost for this car, or would i be better off just taking it apart and looking for damage? Would this be a good time for me to just go ahead and do a complete b-16a swapover, or should this be a cheap fix if i do it myself. Thanks for any words of wisdom.

push it in harder.
I don't know, one misshift shouldn't kill it.

I say get the B16 if you can. That car should be loads of fun with that engine.
I think I'm gonna get an Si like yours when I get back from Iraq, like next year... Just for a side project.
I've always wanted a CRX.

check the shift linkage and pushings to see if there were damaged as the engine was bucking violently

Mine does that too, being a little hard to push into first while at a dead stop. Just let the clutch out ever so slightly while pushing it into first gear. I'm actually sending my car upstate today for a tranny rebuild and clutch replacement; my mainshaft and countershaft bearings have gone bad. Anyways, my transmission guy says that because our early hondas use motor oil to lube these trannys it really doesn't get the best lubrication it could for the tranny internals. I told him that after the rebuild I wanted to replace the fluid with Redline lubricant. He agreed saying it was a great idea.

I've already climbed under the car and had somebody shift through the gears. The linkage looks fine as it's shifting through the gears. It just won't go into first even with brute strength force. While the car is idling, i can hear a strange noise coming from the trans while it's in neutral. It goes away whenever i put it into gear, which of course is not first. This leads me to believe it's not the linkage and something internal. I've had no time to dissassemble it yet. Any more advice on what i should look for would be greatly appreciated. I was hoping somebody has had this problem before and could tell me what it was or is. Thanks again.

Welp. I hope it's the trans. I just picked up a used one from my local salvage yard for $260. Hope i did'nt get ripped off. I also got a Luk repset clutch disk, pressure plate, and throw out bearing kit from Pep Boys. It was around $140 bucks. A total of 400 bucks worth of damage for one stupid burnout. A heck of a lot more if i paid somebody to do it. Well, maybe a little less than that because it does'nt really need a clutch yet, but while you've got it apart, it would be dumb not to replace it.

does the noise also go away if you just press the clutch pedal in?

if so my money is on the throw out bearing.

Yea, it does. I'm fixing to find out. Going to take it out in about an hour from now. My money is on something internal in the trans. At least i hope so because i've already got another used trans. I'm thinking it is, becuase you could (as far as i remember) put it in first without pressing the clutch in. It now will not attempt to go in first. Anyway, it should be fixed when i'm done. I'm replacing the clutch, pressure plate, bearings, and the the whole trans. Thanks for all the ideas and help.
