hey guys,
how can anyone be sure that honda will not produce
a V8?? how much power can they actually keep
getting out of V6's????
i've got to think that a V8 is on the horizon. i just
don't see honda or any other manufacturer using
hybrid technology for the first time in their flagship
car. just my opionion.

Honda will not build a V8. They will build a drivetrain with the power of a competitor's V8, but they will not build a V8. Honda is staunchly pro-environment, and are very concerned about gas mileage...it would be asinine to build a V8 this late in the game.
If you want reference, go to the news and rumors forum and just do a search...the V8 debate has gone on twice in the past couple years, and the concensus each time has been that Honda will never, ever build a V8.
If you want A-SPEC stuff, go to the news and rumors forum.
hey guys,
sorry...i forgot about the insight and the civic.
neither of these vehicles in my mind can help
honda make the leap to a that is truly needed
for honda to have a first class flagship.
i still feel that honda will come forward with
a larger engine. as for honda being environmentally
friendly....ok i can buy that but remember.....the dollar
rules....even at honda.

Whoa, I never said that they would put a hybrid into the RL. The AWD drive type they plan to make will have an electric type drive unit. The engine is going to be a V8 gasoline, it will not be considered a true "hybrid". It's not for gas mileage it's to have an AWD design only.
Hey 98coupev6, it's not a thinking about it issue, the plan is moving into a 2005-2006 model. I'm not repeating some rumor off some forum, This is out of a AMH personal that just came back from the R&D dept. of torrance. it's going to happen.

S55: The dollar rules, and the cost of producing a V8 for use in one single car(and possibly the MDX later) is overwhelming compared to the profit they'll make from that car, especially considering that it'll be their first V8. Tens of millions in production costs, maybe hundreds of millions. For the engine alone.
Mustacura!
I seriously doubt Honda will EVER put a V8 in one of these cars. They already have the technology for 400HP and 46 MPG *cough* DN-X *cough* It's all cost factor though.
Have you read the specs on the new TL? 270HP, 30MPG holy crap!

Additional threads regarding the A-SPEC TL
hey guys,
this is just my opinion but i really feel a V8 is in Acuras future.
imho without it their dead in the water.
i'll guess we'll all have to wait and see what happens in the spring of 04. we should have some spy shots or some news
updates directly from Acura by then.
so guys keep yours eyes peeled!

They are in no way "dead in the water" without a V8. The replacement for a V8 is called technology. Honda is the second largest company in Japan and has a reliability record that beats all others. If Honda made a V8 car it would have to be advanced to get at LEAST 24MPG and be an LEV. If it doesn't meet the HIGH HIGH HIGH standards Honda has for engines, it will not be made. It also has to be practical. Gotta be able to sell enough of them.
