first oil change in new 05 TL
This is the 1st new car that I've ever owned so please don't think this is a silly question. My service light say service is due soon. (7000) Are there specific things the dealer will look for at the first service, or can I just change the oil and filter myself and reset the maintenance monitor?
Thanks Sujit

If you're going to do your own work on a $35,000 car, buy the Helms service manual and do everything. Why cheap out on such a large investment? There are many inspections that need to be done on a car so new and everything needs to be lubricated.
But then again I doubt Acura will warranty anything that you work on yourself that could possibly be caused by your own error, so I would wait until you hit 50k.

Just do the oil change/rotate the tires yourself. Also, just check the other fluids (tranny, power steering, brake).

Oil Change
I am a relatively new Acura owner but have considerable experience with the maintenance and repairs of other quality vehicles. I tend to change oil at the 3-5K range. I notice the filler cap specifies 5w-20 oil. 5w-20 oil is hard to find where I live. Any other recommendations? We are very happy with the car. A 1993 400E was replaced by it as our family trip car and one of my wife's daily drivers.

I have been using Mobil 1 synthetic 0w-30 ever since my first oil change. I change my oil every 7K to 10K miles.

I noticed Mercedes has switched to the 0w-30 for my SLK32. The dealer changed the oil for the past 4 years as a freebee. About two years ago, they switched to the above viscosity from a heavier oil.
I only use the synthetic stuff in my track car. Now that the freebees for my SLK32 are over, I may go back to dino oil in it when I change it.

It's not the money as much as I am not sure synthetic oil is needed for normal driving.
For normal driving I think of synthetic oil use as a variant of Pascal's Wager.

I know this post is 2 months old, but...
You waited til your NEW car hit 7,000 miles before the FIRST oil change???
I don't think I've ever let any of my vehicles hit 7k miles BETWEEN oil changes, much less go more than 1500 miles on a new engine before dumping the oil.
