Of course bass is affected, as old skool said. Bass (and sound for that mattter) is pressure travelling through air. If there are things in the way, air travel changes, and waves get absorbed and/or refelected.

Spy,

So then the bass should be lessened when items are in the trunk, no? Or is this more a myth or theory? Can bass actually decrease with items to eat up or as you say "absorb" the waves?

Again, oldskool is right, hard items will reflect the waves, soft items will absorb. In any event, the waves will change with items in the trunk. I guess if you had a bunch of pillows in there, it would lessen the base coming into your cars cabin.

Is it really that bad, or are you just curious about the details?

If your resonating chamber is filled with deadening pillows and sleeping bags, then yeah, they'll absorb the sound and you'll lose a little bass. But on the other hand....it should reduce trunk rattle

Actually, now that you say it, the trunk DOES rattle more when there is nothing in there --- although the VOLUME of my bass, I notice now, goes up and I can crank that bitch waaaaay loud when the trunk is empty, the rattles and vibrations do go away when shit is in the trunk....yet, will this affect how the bass travels OUTSIDE the vehicle when my trunk has shit in it?
