I mean, even the silver mounting/bracket is sticking out.
Is it supposed to be like that or is it just car-specific?

I'm leaning towards your HU but I don't like seeing the silver mounting/bracket also sticking out

Thank you...
i have that silver trim because when the HU retracts, it becomes completly flushed looking. without the trim, you'll have this nasty looking gap.

it's supposed to look like that, and with the HU folded up, you can't even notice it's there.

1. comparing Alpine to Pioneer (pain-in-my-ear) is like comparing Honda to Daewoo. Alpine 10 fold!!!
2. sound quality, no comparison....Alpine 10 fold
3. USABLE features, Alpine again
4. looks/design...Pioneer because most people like flashy girlie looking radios.
5. It's an Alpine...they've always been good quality. Now if this was 1995-6, it'd be a serious toss-up as to which to get. Pioneer was great back in the day...to bad they suck dirty monkey balls now....

do you have ANY idea what you're talking about? i've owned both alpine and pioneer brands in the past. i'm NOT at all biased towards 1 brand. i did alot of research and went with the Pioneer. all your "reasons" are nothing but opinions. i like this line the best ...

"looks/design...Pioneer because most people like flashy girlie looking radios. "

ummm ... okay, let's get a MAN radio. let's get a stock one because those look brutal and rugged.

"USABLE features, Alpine again"

what isn't usable on the Pioneer? the mp3 playback? the 7 setting eq? the built in sub crossover? the tv tuner control?

you for got reason 6 to get an alpine ...

have you ever owned any of Alpine "Bass Egine Plus" decks??? if you don't, then you don't know why most people prefer Alpine when it comes to decks. I have owned two of those and my current one is 7995. i have nothing but good things to say about new alpine decks.

personally, i'd rather have better sound quality (alpine) than race cars and dolphins on my faceplate (pioneer, kenwood).

it's not a fact that i'm in love with pioneer. it's just that the features on the 8400 deck is what i was looking for and it had the right price, $325. my previous deck, which was stolen, was an alpine ... and it was great too, but i needed the mp3 playback.

toxis is completely pissing me off. he thinks he owns the audio forum. search his posts, you'll see what i mean. i'm trying to prove that MY deck isn't a piece of sh!t toxis is playing it off as.

OK....thx for everybody's opinions.

I know everyone has their own preference and both brands has their own characteristics.

steveng: yes...I own Alpine 7864 and 7894 before.

and guys, my choice are down to 2:
either the Alpine or the Pioneer Premier.

I know ordinary Pioneer "might" not be as good as Alpine,
but what about their Premier series (the P840MP)?
Are those still not comparable to Alpine's quality?

I'm considering Pioneer because I have always used Alpine, and I can't afford Eclipse's "retailer" price + labor fee

i GOT it. go to walmart and get one of these.

and then these.

problem solved. It hits hard in this.

I would also like to add that I've had it like this for a long time... Even though considering my ENTIRE stereo system cost just barely more than what you guys' H/Us cost... (~$500). The only protection I have is my cargo cover and door locks. Now WHO in there right mind is gonna steal a Road Gear radio? They probably wouldnt look twice unless they saw the huge 1000w red power wire on the right side of the car.... Totally stealth. I know you are all laughing, but in the end who doesnt spend the money replacing sound system components? That concept AMP is only 400w, as well.

FINALLY!!!! Someone with the right frame of mind when it comes to car audio. The reason people started buying car stereos...FOR THEIR FRIGGEN EARS!!!! That's like buying a TV for your house because of how it sounds...nevermind the fact the picture looks like dookie...

Eclipse (the proper way it's spelled), I might be pissing you off but that's ok. Why? Because I am the kind of person who goes for car audio for the AUDIO aspect of it. You obviously are getting into it for your visual pleasures. Now if you knew anything about car audio and TRULY did research, you would NOT have bought a Pain-in-my-ear. Do some research on the TRUE facts of the radios. Alpine's pre-outs (the little wire thingies that you hook up to your amp), are rated at 4volts. Test them. They actually have a company average of 5.2 volts PER PREOUT! They call it 4 volt because 1. they are the company that invented 4 volt technology and 2. if they put 5.2 and a unit only did 4.7, well that'd be false advertising. Period! Now Pioneer (along with Kenwood, Panasonic, JVC, etc etc) claim to be 4 or 4.5 volt...well, that's because that's the TOTAL voltage you get from the radio...in other words (let me spell it out for the lil kiddies at home) the COMBINED voltage would be 4.5 volts. Still confused? That's 4.5 volts if you combined the voltage of all three preouts. 1.5 volts X 3 preouts...yup, that equals 4.5 volts. Let's advertise THAT! So anyhow...that's enough about that.

Now when I say usable features, the screen. Yup, that's useful! What about the EQ? Do you need an eq if you're running QUALITY stuff? Shouldn't on a basic system. You have more of a chance of blowing something if you alter the sound when you're not sure what you're doing. "That sounds better, crank the highs and bass!" Yup, gotta love the Disco curve on the EQ huh fella's? LOL! I remember going through the 7300 Pioneer radio and it dumbfounded me how many things you could do with that radio when you shouldn't have to do ANYTHING to make it sound good. Leave the EQ on flat, get quality equipment and be happy! But hey, listen to the dude who recommended Walmart stuff, because we all know Walmart sells Pioneer. And yes, you've guessed it. It's the same line as the rest of Pioneer. Don't think they get different stuff because they don't! Oh well, you be happy with your radio. It's your money, I hope you are pleased with your purchase. Now me? I'll stick with Nakamichi. Extremely clean and they look as simple as possible. I guess when you get older, you realize how retarded all this flash is.

Guess that's why some people like bling bling's when others have to have Mugen's........society is on it's downfall.

So my question is, how long til a moderator comes on here and gets mad at me for THIS post?
