It doesn't take much distortion to ruin audio components. As soon as distortion begins, the speaker is beginning to not be able to cool itself down.

I'd connect the powered amp directly to the battery. ( run the wire )

Why have a cap if your going to run the power wire straight to the battery?

That's what I was thinking... anyone else agree? Thanks for the input by the way.

A cap is meant to run in line with the power wire from the battery:doh:

The way it's allways been explained to me by installers differes from what RF says. Go from the B+ into the cap and out to the amp. Then take GND out from the amp, into the cap, then to ground.

Yup, that's how I got it setup. Batt. to caps, caps to amp.

Where is your gain set at? How well did you ground your amp? If everything is set correctly, you need a better box.

BTW, nice deck. I have the little brother of that. Very well built, the 25th stuff of theirs.

Since the weather has been a bit warmer, I've rewired the powered subwoofer to the battery. No more dimming at high volume, which I dought I'll have it at those levels anyways.

Yes, the 25th anniversary units were well built. It's a shame I couldn't get the 25th anniversay amp as well. The local shop wanted $599 for it and I couldn't justify paying that much nor could find a new unit online. I was told by Kenwood that the KAC-X542 was the same model, minus more expensive componants. So, for $212, it isn't that bad of a unit; it's still an excelon series.
