Default ipod and alpine

so i have a alpine 7893 hu and just aquired an ipod for real cheap
looks like i can get a cable that turns the ainet control from the 7893 to rca, or to ipod connection
anybody done either of these?
recomendations?
also there is a $100 deal that alpine sells that allows you to actually use the hu controls to switch tracks and such, anyone use one of those?
it says its compatible with 2004 and up hu's, not sure mine is, it should be around there though

im cheap and i want ipod in car, solution?

just picked up a Perepheral brand Connex2Car pxa06 cable
it goes from ai-net --> 3.5 mini jack/co-ax/ipod
also charges ipod
this way i can charge the ipod, control from ipod, and also plug in any friends mp3 player or my computer if i want to
it was $60, so a little more spendy, but didnt have to deal with ebay or shipping so thats fine
i will be putting it in tonight hopefully, assuming it stays light out long enough to get in, i have to pull apart my whole dash to get behind my stereo and also need to fix a few other wiring things while back there

also picked up a cheap holder that fits in the vent or sticks to the dash
we will see if i can make a decent bracket to get it angled right and hold the ipod nicely and not look tacky
wish me luck

i just have the $25 Alpine Ai-net to minijack cable for my iPod but I also have like a 3 year old Alpine hu (9807 maybe?). Anyway, lemme know how the install goes. I'm trying to figure out a better place to put my iPod. Right now I just lay it in the opening under my e-brake in my integra, but then I have to pick it up or look down to find songs. I'm interested in hearing what you come up with.

im a lazy bitch and its cold and wet outside
i got the cable plugged into the hu, but not the power wires hooked up yet so no charging yet, and i havent hidden the cable
i cut the cradle apart a little bit, and sharpied it black, ghetto yes but it actually looks like the stock black plastic now
i need to decide where to set it up, below the rear defrost button over that little change tray area, or lower next to climate control, also need to angle correctly so i can see it while driving
then need to decide where to run the cable out.. blah blah blah

i will finish tomorrow when i can see and it will hopefully not be raining
pics will be included so maybe others can improve on my ghettoness

ideas or input anyone?

btw its a 97 ek 4dr, most of you know what the dash looks like in one of those
