Default Building a box

Hey i didn't know if this should go in the audio forum or what however
I'm looking to build a new box for my 2 12" subs and wehn i talked to this guy i bought them from about it, he said no way because the box will be broken by the subs. so i just wanted some tips about box creation so it doesn't in fact break.
thanks

Uhhh...no. A properly built box will not "break" with a pair of Kicker Comps.

It is pretty much standard when I build my boxes
-Use .75" MDF
-Predrill holes for drywall screws every 8"
-Run a line of wood glue on all connecting edges
-Run a line of caulk on the seams

that guys simply trying to get u to buy one from him, u need one hell of a subwoofer or some cheap ass 1/4 inch MDF to break a box. do every thing as listed above, to further enhance the box sand it to make all the edges smooth. have fun and get creative! Throw some damn plexiglass up in there!

alright, thanks. plexiglass, that sounds...expensive but fun
i had also read on crutchfield to double up on mdf where i'm going to mount the sub. that a good idea? I also need to find a place to mount my amp. As you all probably know about honda's etc, theres a little niche in my trunk thats about 32"s wide and my current box won't fit in there, so i thought i would build a new one. however, thats where i've put my amp so essentially, i'm losing the place for my amp. someone suggested putting it on the back of my seat, but the drawback there is that i've got a big amp and the seat back isn't big enough, due to the little hatch compartment going into my main seating area. so thats my problem.
here's a pic of my trunk if it'll show up

another question is how do i hook up some nice neon lighting inside my box to make it pulse to the music without using the cigarette lighter?
would i cut off the lighter attachment and have it tap into the terminal?

If you are using a heavy sub, some people would advise using 2 .75" board to mount them. These are only Kicker Comps, single layer would do. (no offense to the subs, I actually just put one in my gfs car h: ). You can always mount the amp on the box itself.

As for the neons...:dunno:

Yeah some Comps wont hurt a regular box, u need some Alpine Type-X's to do that ish! but Will is right, mount it on the back of the box, it saves space and doesnt look bad, especially if you take some wood and put it around the amp so it all seems to sit flush, sounds difficult but is actually pretty easy! That way u see hardly any wires. As for the Neons, well i am not too sure how to work them, i had always wanted to check it out for myself but havent tried it yet, so maybe if u find out u can tell me!

what i was thinking is building a box to fit up in the 'cavity' in my trunk and then turn the subs around to face the seats. then i thought i would mount the amp to the floor on the side of the trunk or on the back of the box.
i had heard that would bust the amp up
true? or probably not?

I heard about that to. Most people still do it, and it seems to work fine. They said that the vibrations will fuck up the main board or something. I don't remember but it seemed pretty logical to why it would mess up your amp.

I done what u said..that is 3/4 MDF.. friend built for me ..no carpet..but here is a pic of my trunk.

I used the oem trunk carpet and used some industrial staples to secure it on my box...Underneath the amp is a board of MDF the lenght of the trunk and the width of the space left..from the back of the box to end of my trunk. I noticed when i would accelerate quickly my box would slide and hit my amp..so i got a board of mdf and stuck it in between flush so now it wedges / stops the box from moving..n heck this pick is old i cut a whole n all the wires are underneath the carp..next thing is prob buildin a box to go were the spare goes lol ..but yea i done tried what u want..it works..but if u have a moon/sun roof....be careful...I "derailed" mine..or so says the local body shop..I need a new moonroof n its about 1k ...lol..

hope that helps
