Hey, you mentioned that you can buy just the receiver "brain" for the car, and it'll accept the 16-pin green plug from the factory HU, say from 98-02 accords and CRV. Any idea where I might pick one of these up? Also, how do you suppose I'd connect power to it?

thx

careful, I only made an assumption.

I don't think its in the crv's. But when I installed the keyless into my dads car, I noticed the plugs for the civic and accord looked similar.

I got the brain unit and two remotes from the dealership for about $70
just ask for the keyless brain unit for a 98-02 accord lx

as for power, I'm assuming its integrated in the harness. I wish I tried it out on my car before I put it in.

be aware that the pin outs might be different. those alarm brains are made by alpine for honda so you may be able to call them(they may also have no clue).

in the dash where your old radio was, there was a green harness that plugged into the top of the radio(it was plugged into the keyless entry brain). there are two wires you need to connect that are located in that harness. try a search on this but i will see if i can find out. its been a while since i have done this so i don't want to give you wrong wire colors.

as a side note to everyone interested, you can removed the stock radio and actually hide in right behind that lower din opening. you can remove the face of the old radio by removing the screws on the side of the face and it will fit back there. then you could just place the aftermarket radio where the factory was using a dash kit. the kit really only takes on irregular shape of the opening and makes it a perfect rectangle in the middle for the aftermarket radio.

If anyone can help me out here, I'd really appreciate it - here's the deal...i bought a 97 Civic LX used, with an aftermarket HU already in it. I wanted OEM keyless so i bought an ebay radio from a 96 LX, Metra Harness, and keyless remote. I wired the harness and connected it to the Honda radio, and the aftermarket radio, then connected the famous Green plug to the Honda radio. The aftermarket radio works fine, and the Honda radio powers up as well (although no sound since speakers aren't wired). When I go to program the remote, and push the "valet/prog" button on the honda radio, the locks are supposed to "cycle", but instead nothing happens. Is there any way anyone knows of to tell whether the radio has something wrong with it or if the wiring in the car has been compromised? Like a pin-out or expected readings from the pins or the harnesses from a good manual? Thanks in advance.
