I want the best looking head unit and I prefer to have it playing MP3s and CD-RWs. Sound quality is second since I automatically assume these all push good or at least decent bass for the price I'm paying.

If you only care about looks and features like you say you do, I would go with the Pioneer. It has that nice display and has several screen savers to choose from. I have had my old school Pionner P4000 (like five years old) and have never had a problem with it.

i second the nakamichi CD 45 z - it is old but it still blows away the others as to SQ. trust me - I HAVE ONE!

my second choice would be alpine head units and clarion head units..

It's got the best SQ I've ever heard out of nearly any deck.
and it looks *SOOOOOO CLEAN*

Its not like... Tokyo At Night, like... say.. my Clarion is. (But I got my clarion for free basically, so I cant complain).

Anyone wanna buy my Clarion? (I wnat a nak 45z)

yeah everyone is on pioneer's nuts, but i owned two pioneers and both had problems. first one was a 8000 and the screen got messed up and started flickering (might i add the sq was not good) second was the 9000 after returning the 8000 and that left black spots on my cd's!!!
i had two clarions 9575 which had no problems, (but got stolen) and 9675 (which i have now) and hasnever had any problems and sq is amazing.

if you like the flexibility of tunning music, alpine cda-7995 is the best choice. it has tons of features and new tech. that's why alpine called it a cd/mp3 TUNER intead of cd player

no disrespect, but i don't think you know what you're talking about. where are you getting your information from? pioneer is not cheaply built, and they are very reliable.

Any of those decks are fine except for the Sony. I just don't like it. I can't explain it. But you know what though, people say this and that about the decks and stuff but hey you get what you can afford or just whatever YOU like; whether it be because of the features or the looks of it. I personally think getting a deck is like buying a car. You can buy one that was well built or you can end up with a lemon; regardless of the company. It's just a matter of chance. Any deck is susceptible to getting messed up, either by fault of the owner or the company. But hey if you care about other people's opinion's I GUESS you can get the Alpine. I only hear good things about those decks. You know what I recommend doing? Go to like Circuit City, Good Guys, Best Buy, etc and just check out the decks there and see what you like. Once you find it buy it somehwere else that's cheaper. That's what I did. heh I REALLY wanted an Alpine but I can't afford it so it was either the Pioneer(DEH-P740MP or DEH-P840MP) or Panasonic(CQ-DFX972U). I ended up with the Pioneer 740 because I needed to save up more money for this particular amp I wanted AND I got a REALLY good deal on it. I installed it myself the other day and I like it so far. Anyway, enough rambling, I hope you get your deck soon dude.
