Default Sub Question

dual 4ohm voice coils, pardon my ignorance, but what does this mean when looking at a subwoofer?

excellent read. The dual 4 ohm voice coil indicates the impedance of the sub. For instance you can have single 4 ohm subs, dual 2 ohms subs etc. This is used to give you wiring options so you can take full advantage of your amps power. For example many amps will give power ratings such as:

4ohm power = 250watts RMS
2ohm power = 500watts RMS

Just read the tutorial, it is a great explination.

audiobahn = no

I have heard many of their subs, and they all sound like crap. I think their higher end stuff even sounds like crap. You can do much better for your $$. Check out www.edesignaudio.com As many others on this board will tell you they have great subs, that are affordable and offer amazing SQL.

i used audiobahn for years, and always sounded good, but it took enormous amps to push. then i got a good deal on some JL 12w0's in a PW and tried them.....more sound outta them with a 300 watt amp than outta a 1000 watt amp with the subs you are talking about.

now, running different JLs
i'd say get JLs if you can. they are reliable and strong!

You can't beat eD dollar for dollar. I ran JL 12w3-D2s for years, and while they sere adequate performers, they get skunked by even the bargain (K series) eDs. Also nice not to have to build an enclosure the size of a footlocker to hold the eDs...
