Time to upgrade the stereo, is it worth the effort to put a Bose from a Type S into a base model??? I know where I can get one at a reasonable price. Will I have wiring issues? Does the base model have an amp or just use the head unit for power? I assume I'll need the entire stereo?? Any help is appreciated.

 

it would be a total waste of time... Bose is nothing special. Add an Alpine CD changer if you want 6 disc convience.... and upgrade your factory speakers with something decent... Crutchfield usually has some good specials. If then, the sound isnt quite loud enough or clear enough, add a 4 channel amp.

Adding bose would not be fun, you'd need wirring from the deck to the amp (the base RSX does not have an external amp) and then from the amp to all the speakers. But its more than just that... the bose headunit only puts out a VERY low level audio signal, so it is very easy to introduce noise into the system, not just any wirring would do.

 

I agree, to upgrade ti the bose would be a waste of time and $. Just get a new headunit, speakers, and an amp.

Bose is a higher than stock system with some bass. The issue is, is it worth all the trouble installing it into another car? I dont think so. For the same money and WAY less hassle, you'll end up with better sound (unless your tone deaf).

I dont know how this particular Bose system is set up, but most of the ones I've seen employ an amplified speaker configuration, that is, there is no central amplifier. This makes repair and upgrade next to impossible, meaning, if a speaker blows, you cant just buy a pair from Best Buy.

That said, I still think Bose car audio sucks!!!

 

The Bose systems used by acura use a central amplifier, with a shielded cable assembly that runs from the deck to the amp. In the RSX there is a second amp that is mounted with the sub, that powers just the sub.
