Default Did i just F this up?

I just changed my oil back over to 5w-30 for the winter (had 10w-40 in there cuz it was so fricken hot here), and i was not paying attentoin and bought the wrong filter, didnt notice till i had everything drained and crap, so i couldnt really just go back to the store. I drained the other oil filter (only had about 1000 miles on it) and just put it back in and refilled the oil. The EX i have usually takes about 4.5 quarts, and this time it probably took about 4.3 quarts, i am guessing from the leftover oil in the filter.

I know mixing viscositys is bad, but is this going to be ok, or do i need to start over?

You should be fine. I've heard more often than not that mixing viscositys is fine, just so long as the oils are made by the same company, and you are not mixing a synthetic w/ a petroleum based oil.

I'd go back & get the right filter. Then just change the filter since you already have new oil. That way you don't risk filling the filter & letting it bypass.

Or when you figure out when to change oil next time, go by the mileage ON THE FILTER. Make sure you watch for your oil getting dirty early.

I was more worried about the dirt in the filter. But with only 1000 miles on that filter, I guess I'm not too worried. Besides, it's not MY engine... Just seems like the filter costs so little you may as well do it.

Taking off the filter shouldn't drain all the oil, just what's in the filter itself. So maybe you'll add 1/2 qt?

Thats correct.
As far as draining the new oil... you can just reuse it if you use a bucket.
