Yes, it is easy to convert drums to discs. It will cost $300-400. Find an EX at a junkyard and swap the parts...

You can use aftermarket parts like pads and rotors, but you need the stock EX rear spindles and calipers. Unless you have real deep pockets and want some aftermarket kit like Brembo that replaces the stock calipers. In any case, you'll still need the spindle, ebrake parts, etc.

If you want to really maximize it, you'd need the MC and hardlines from the EX so you have the right proportioning. Another option could be an aftermarket proportioning valve.

I've thought about doing it on mine, but haven't decided if it's worth it. If I did, I'd probably just swap with used spindles, and use some new brembo blank rotors and some new pads.

Cost...just depends on how cheap you can get parts.

I don't know of any aftermarket drum to disc conversion kit for our cars, hence the used EX spindles.

Unless you are entering your car in shows, I think its a waste of time to do a disc brake conversion. Since 90% of the braking power comes from the front, you might as well use that money and upgrade your front brakes with an AEM big brake kit or something like that.

the only thing that bugs me is the rust ring around the wheel hub-mounting point, since the rim doesn't cover that up all the way. I'm sure sandpaper + flat black would fix that :dunno:

Just a thought...

YES, disc brakes are better...more stopping power, but you'll have to replace pads and resurface rotors every so often. Granted these parts are relatively cheap, still an expense.

Drum brakes...you'll never have to replace anything...and smakdown is right...your front brakes do practically everything.

I have a coupe (EX) and the disc brake set-up found on the stock Accord is very weak and almost a bother. The rear pads typically only last 25-40k and you can easily get more life from the drum set-up.

If you have drums and your car is a daily driver I'd just keep the set-up stock. My wife's Spyder has rear drums. I simply scuff down and paint the drum with high temp flat black paint every spring, looks good all year.
