Default painting engine cover

Hey guys,
I would like to know how I would be able to paint my engine cover without getting any dust/dirt into the engine element. My body shop didnt recommend that we take it off in the dusty shop cuz he was afraid that dust would contaminate the engine when we take off the cover.... does anyone have any experience/opinions?
Thanks

Take the valve cover off, put some saran wrap on the engine while in the garage.

also remember you must paint it with paint that can withstand high high temperatures or it'll just crack and fall off.

well i was talking about the plastic engine cover of the v6... i mean, if the thing is made of plastic, then i dont think i would even need a very high temperature paint because wouldnt the plastic melt if it were exposed to that kind of heat?

a v6 still has a valve cover...but....

i would run the engine for a while(wait till u drive somewhere on the interstate), then check the temperature of that plastic afterwards....if its cool to the touch, meaning you can leave your hand on it without burning yourself. Then a modern paint will do for that, i would use an oil based paint.

just do it with paint that can stand up to 500 degrees of heat and be on the safe side so you dont have to do it again.

yes i know the V6 still has a vavle cover
but its not as visible as the i4s so nobody polishes or paints it

we paint the engine covers

if u want a how-to check out Alicia's page here

http://windsrprk.home.mindspring.com/how-to.html#engine

i used a high heat primer then a couple coats of blue and a couple coats of clear coat, came out pretty nice!
