Default explain this to me...

I'm sure there have been posts and posts about this, so I'll apologize in advance, but i'm looking at new wheels, and am wondering what the numbers on tires mean...say for example, if it says 205/40/17, what do these numbers mean and are they sufficient for my car? also, are hp racing wheels quality or crap?

205 is the width of the rim and tire

40 is the sidewall height

17 is the inside diameter of the tire in inches, so like you got a 17" rim, then that number needs to be 17 since thats the size of your tire.

you should go with 215/45/17 if you plan on 17" rims. For 18's, 225/40/18

www.tirerack.com explains with pictures too

i'd go with a 215/40 or 215/45 on 17" wheels. 215/45 look really meaty tho.... might make your rims look a bit smaller
