****My ACCORD Totalled! Advise please!****
Hey all, if you look in the gallery you can see my accord. It is now completely totalled!
I had it parked on the side of the road in front of my house and 21 year old girl came flyin up the street and HIT it in the frong right corner. Totally taking out the fender, but not touching the door. The tire was blown and the rim had damage. ALL light housings for the passenger side of the car were taken off. It bent my hood and pushed my airbox out of its mounting place. Also pushed my battery a little towards the drivers side.
But i dont understand!! My car is worth $6025 according to state farm insurance co. So this means that the damages had to be over $4518? Thats 75% of the total value. I am SUPER PISSED! I owe $4700 on the loan and was on a $339/month for 36 month plan. This car would have been payed off october of 2004.
This would leave me with approx. $1500 CASH to go buy another car? This is redicilous! I already payed over $8100 for this car in the past two years! I dont see how this is called "reimbursment" for the damages she put on my friggin life! I now have to find a car with the low down payment i do have, and then it WILL NOT be no 12 month loan. I'll prolly end up with another 36 month loan.
Do i have grounds for suing? Cuz the way i see it. I am NOT in anyway shape or form being totally compensated for the damages done!
The only way i would call it even if they would find me a car just lke mine for $4700! Because that's how much i owe on the loan.
As you can tell, i'm steemed and very pissed off! I'd appreciate any advice you could give me to approaching this problem.
Thanks!
Dave

As a former dealer, I highly recommend it and pretty much insist it's part of a car deal if the vehicle is leased. It basically is a cheap insurance that pays the difference between what is owed on the car and what it's deemed worth by the insurance company. If I would have financed $26k for my accord, it would have only cost $400 or so.
Good luck on the new ride and consider yourself lucky that it was just a car and not you or a family member.
He meant that the pics in the Accord Gallery are of his car before it was totalled. He has pics he needs to get developed of the totalled car. Anyways, sorry to hear about the whole thing bro. I was actually looking at an old thread the other day and saw your name, and wondered to myself where have ya been? Anyways, good luck with all the shit going on.
Yes..my car is now in the gallery when it was "perfect", in other words..not wrecked?
The pictures i have of the car totalled are in my 35mm slr camera and i need to get them developed. Its a 36 exp. roll, and those are the only pics on it so far, so i gotta take pics of someothin else too
Yeh...75% is that lucky number. It sucks major arse with an older car.
I had the GAP insurance on this car and my civic as well. I learned from the insurance rep that it ONLY works when you owe more than the car is worth. Then they will pay it off for you! So it basically is non-existant to me since i owe less than the car is worth.
Yes...i got to think and be thankful that me or a family member was not hurt but i consider my car a family member :-) LOL
Tomorrow i go to the body shop to get personal items outta the car. Its gonna be hard honestly, cuz i've grown attached to that car and put soo much work into the maintenance and now it goes to waste!
So if anybody is lookin for a mint condition f22b2....one will be at a junkyard soon. 100k miles on it! Synthetic oil since 70k.
Oh well....thanx for the support guys, i'll try to get pictures up.

Unfortunately that is how things work out. Insurance doesn't pay replacement value for cars. Look into GAP insurance on your next loan if it's a larger amount. They may not offer it on used cars, but lots of lenders offer it on new car loans.
